I am homeless tonight what should I do?
Call Julian House and we will book you into a bed if there is one available or you can turn up to the Night Shelter between 8pm and Midnight and, if we have a bed available, you can have it. Staff will go through an induction with you and then you will see a key worker during the day who will find out your needs and how they can best be met. You need to make sure you do not have a live housing benefit claim elsewhere. Your first two nights will be free of charge, following this the cost is £3 per night.
I have a dog, can I still get into the night shelter?
Yes, we allow 1 dog at a time on the basis of a risk assessment.
I don’t have a local connection to Bath,
will I be turned away?
No but we will look to reconnect you to your local area if you have one and it is reasonable to return.
Will you help with food and showers?
The Day Centre serves a very cheap lunch and the night shelter provides a nutritious evening meal as well as showers. We can also give you a list of other servcies in Bath including those serving food/drink.
I have a lot of debt with a previous landlord
– can you still help me?
Yes, your key worker can help you with this as part of your support plan.
I have been given an eviction notice – what now?
It is important to act quickly and we will signpost and support you into the appropriate services. A service you should contact is: http://www.dhi-online.org.uk/do/bath/the-reach-floating-support-service/
I have found myself unemployed, can you help me with my rent?
We can assist you with making calls to the Housing Benefit department and/or making an application as well as signposting to other services and sources of help.
I have a drug/alcohol problem, can you help?
We can offer you emotional support and signpost you to appropriate services for treatment and specialist support.
I am bored and have nothing to do all day, what do you provide that could occupy my time?
We have a meaningful occupation project, social enterprises and volunteering opportunities. You can get involved in as little or as much as you would like from cooking and health and wellbeing groups to bike workshops and volunteering in our charity shops, day/night shelter, café etc. Please call our Volunteer Co-ordinator 01225 354657 or the Day Centre 01225 311991 for more information.
My neighbours are really noisy and intimidating,
what should I do?
Report it to the Police and report the incident to your landlord. We can help you to do this and signpost you to the appropriate services.
My repairs are not being done in my flat – what should I do?
Call the Landlord. We can help you to do this and signpost you to the appropriate services.
I want to get into Barnabas House, what do I have to do?
You need to register on the B&NES Housing Support Gateway: http://www.housingsupportgatewaybathnes.org.uk/Data/ASPPages/1/136.aspx
What are my housing options?
There are likely to be a range of housing options available to you, including the private rented sector, supported housing etc., we can talk with you about these as part of your support plan.
I am due out of prison soon without an address
to go to – what can you help me with?
If you meet the criteria, you can be referred to Peter House via Probation, The Prolific Offenders Team, the Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) or your Prison Accommodation Specialist Housing Advisor. Or you can access Julian House night shelter/day centre.
I am suffering violence in my home and have nowhere to go, can you help me?
Firstly, if you are not safe you should contact the Police. We have a very small accommodation project which accommodates women and children escaping domestic violence and accept agency/self referrals. We are able to signpost and offer support on the telephone.
