Celebrity Support for New Charity Shop

Writer and broadcaster, Bel Mooney, has added her support to a new charity shop by donating several bags of clothes and books at the premises at 17 St James’ Parade.

Much work has been done over the past few weeks to get the shop ready for the grand opening on Thursday 11 December.  The premises needed some minor alterations put one of the most challenging tasks was generating enough stock to fill the shelves and provide replacement items.

This is the first traditional charity shop to be opened by Julian House and represents a significant undertaking by the organisation.  It has operated a large second hand bookshop in New King St for the past eight years but this is its first full time outlet stocking a full range of donated items.

Funding Manger, Cecil Weir is excited at the prospects for the new venture - “Although Julian House is pretty well known there is no doubt that a presence in the city centre will be very helpful to us.  It will raise awareness for both the charity and its work.  It will also make a valuable contribution towards our annual fundraising target of over £300,000.

We are delighted at Bel Mooney’s support.  The success of the shop will depend very much on public donations like this.  We’re particularly looking for good clean clothes, saleable bric a brac and books.  Our St James’ shop will be quite unusual in that it will have over a thousand books on display, plus all the other merchandise that customers expect.”

Donations of stock can be made during the shop’s normal opening hours - 9.30-4.30 Monday to Saturday.  Volunteers also wanted.
