Circuit of Bath Walk 2008

The 2008 event takes place on Sunday 28th September.
The Circuit of Bath Walk is a spectacular event, in which anyone can participate. The route takes in some of Bath’s most beautiful near countryside. Participants will not only enjoy a great day out; they’ll also give a welcome boost to the work of Julian House. 2 miles up to 20, walkers make the choice, thanks to the unique shuttle bus service, which will run throughout the day between the checkpoints.
The Route
The circular route around the city has been carefully selected so that participants can enjoy the countryside and some spectacular views across Bath. In outline it takes in Upper Swainswick, Solsbury Hill, Bathampton, Monkton Combe, Southstoke, Englishcombe, Newton St Loe, Newbridge & Lansdown Park. There are five start points/checkpoints. Participants will start at their preferred checkpoint and finish at any other checkpoint or the same one if they are completing the whole route.
There is a mixture of terrain: well-used paths/public rights of way, limited sections of roadway, flat ground through to reasonable hills. Maps and instructions will be provided on the day to each walker.
Timings
The walk takes place on 28th September 2008. Checkpoints open at 8.00am and close at 5.30pm.
Equipment
No specialist equipment is necessary but well broken in walking boots/shoes are recommended. Although sunny weather has been booked (!) it would be prudent to take along a waterproof jacket. Water will be provided at every checkpoint and there will be refreshments available at certain points on the route but it is recommended that a packed lunch and a water bottle or flask be taken. These items and other accessories such as sun cream, snack bars and a camera are best carried in a small rucksack/day sack.
Participants’ Fitness
Although the whole route is 20 miles, the five sections range between 3km (2 miles) and 8 km (5 miles) which means that casual and keen walkers can take part. For anyone who is setting out to do the whole route but who is not a regular walker we do recommend some preparation beforehand; perhaps a few half day walks in advance.
Sponsorship
All participants are asked to try and raise sponsorship on the back of their participation in this event, using official sponsor forms. As detailed on the sponsor form, with any donation of £5 or more, which is given by a UK taxpayer, Julian House can reclaim the tax, which was paid on this. This means that £5 donation is actually worth £6.40. Although names and addresses are required for Gift Aid donations, sponsors will not be added to the charity’s database.
