Stand up against homelessness by challenging yourself, friends, family and colleagues to sleep out for one night and help raise vital funds and awareness for those forced to do so every night.
The Big Basingstoke Sleep-Out, sponsored by Newbury Building Society, is brought to you by the Big Sleep Out event series and will be held in The War Memorial Park, in partnership with local homeless charity, The Camrose Centre. The Camrose Centre is Basingstoke’s own open access day centre for homeless and vulnerably housed people offering shelter, hot and takeaway food, shower, clothing and a listening ear all year round
Over the years, Julian House Big Sleep-Out events have invited hundreds of people to ditch their beds in unison for one night to raise vital funds and to make an incredible difference to those forced to sleep out every night. Giving up just one night really could transform the lives of others.
In 2020, Julian House will be raising funds and awareness through Sleep-Out events in Basingstoke, Exeter and Bath. We need to beat our fundraising records, but will only be able to do it with your help!
No one is under any illusion that spending one night under the stars could possibly replicate what it is like to be homeless and on the streets. After the Big Basingstoke Sleep-Out you can go home, have a warm bath, have a nice breakfast and chat to family or friends about your experience, perhaps even go back to bed to catch up on the sleep you lost the night before. By being sponsored to sleep out for just one night you will be helping others who don’t have the luxury of their own home to return to.
You can enter as an individual, or with friends and family, or as a team from work, school or another organisation. (Under 16′s must be accompanied by an adult at all times).
We do not charge an entry fee but hope that you will try and raise at least £100 so that we can continue to provide vital support to homeless and marginalised men and women in and around Basingstoke and Hampshire. You will be amazed at how many people will be willing to sponsor you.
“Homelessness is not solely a city-centric issue as it is just as prevalent in our local communities. It’s a huge issue which must be tackled and as a business at the centre of helping people buy their homes, we are delighted to support an event designed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by some of our most vulnerable. With this in mind, we warmly welcome all who wish to join us for the big night this coming March.”Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society.
