Meet David: helping those facing homelessness on hospital discharge

David runs a service called Bay6, a project based in the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) Hospital.

This service helps with housing advice for patients who find themselves at risk of homelessness on discharge from hospital. This includes anything from working with patients who are behind on rent or needing advice with budgeting and maintenance.

Not only does David support those who have come into hospital directly off the streets, he also offers individualised, person-centred support for a wide range of patients who have never experienced homelessness and may feel very fearful.

By helping those facing homelessness with secure accommodation, it reduces the likelihood of readmittance into hospital with last year saving the NHS £400,000.
