Running from Kingswood to Kyiv (virtually!) to support life-changing resettlement work.

Updated: 1 day ago

Rob Thurbon, a Refugee Support Worker at Julian House will be running the equivalent distance from Kingswood to Kyiv over the course of the year to raise money and awareness for the charities refugee resettlement work in South Gloucestershire.

Rob works as a Refugee Support Worker where he helps clients to find and set up a home, access education and training, navigate the job market, find schools for their children. This support is designed to reduce as each year on the scheme passes, with families developing their independence and managing their own lives with confidence.

Since 2022, Julian House has taken on the Homes for Ukraine scheme which is a constructive and supported start for Ukrainians to settle in the UK. This includes help with their finances, and accessing health services, education and employment. In the past year the charity has seen 189 Ukrainians supported as they moved to South Gloucestershire.

‘This isn't just about clocking up the miles. I am doing this to raise funds and awareness for Julian House, with a special focus on their Refugee Resettlement Team in South Gloucestershire. It's a long way but with every step, I'll help support people fleeing conflict and crisis as they rebuild their lives in safety and dignity, from translation services to vital English lessons support for women with children.’ Robert Thurbon, Refugee Support Worker.
