This winter, Julian House is partnering with StreetSmart. StreetSmart is a charity initiative that has been running for over 20 years. It works with participating restaurants and hotels across the UK to raise vital funds for organisations working directly with homeless people. The scheme has raised over £8.2 million since starting in 1998.

How does it work?
During the Christmas period, a voluntary £1 is added to the diners’ bill at participating restaurants around the Bath area.
At the end of each month (November and December), the £1 donations are passed onto StreetSmart, who in turn pass all the proceeds to Julian House. The beauty of Streetsmart is its simplicity. It is an innovative fundraising scheme that runs during the festive months, when people begin to think about those less fortunate than themselves.

Benefit to you?
The initiative is incredibly easy to set up in house. When asked for the bill, staff ask the guests if they would like to add on the voluntary £1 donation for Julian House. Electronic tills then record the donations, so administration is minimal. Plus most restaurants find that participating in StreetSmart has no effect on the level of tipping. StreetSmart;s experience has shown that less than 1% of customers decline to participate.
A small table card is placed on each table explaining all this, and how the money raised is used.
Plus all participating restaurants will have the benefit of their support being promoted via social media from Julian House and the Pig Guide. Establishments which sign up early will also be featured in the launch and press releases at the beginning of November.
The scheme has also been endorsed by some of the country’s finest chefs, including Marcus Wareing and Angela Hartnett, so your restaurant will be in good company.
Run a hotel?
Hotels also have the option of asking staying guests to add a voluntary £1 to their bill after their stay (this could be instead of or in addition to the restaurant). A door hanger, or card in the room will suggest, a voluntary £1 is added to guests’ final room bill.
We would be delighted if your restaurant or hotel were to come on board and help to raise vital funds for Julian House. In return, we will support you with publicity, showcasing your generosity and promoting your involvement in the scheme.
