Walking with purpose: Hundreds of hikers took on the Circuit of Bath Walk

On Sunday 22nd September, Julian House hosted its 23rd annual Circuit of Bath charity walk. Torrential rain didn’t dampen the spirits of 500 walkers who took on the challenging yet rewarding route.

Over the last 23 years, the Circuit of Bath Walk has brought together thousands of individuals all willing to make a difference and walk that extra mile to help Julian House. The price of the tickets and raising sponsorship will go to helping Julian House provide life changing support to over 1,800 vulnerable men, women and children across the region.

The walk this year was made even more difficult due to the relentless downpour of rain which persisted throughout the entire day adding an extra challenge for the contestants to overcome and making their achievement even more impressive.

This year we were proud to be sponsored by Achieve Breakthrough who have had a long-standing relationship with Julian House and took part in completing the full walk. Lead Consultant Della Owen said: “Achieve Breakthrough is so proud to sponsor the Circuit of Bath Walk, helping Julian House in their mission to ensure socially excluded people are supported and empowered to build sustainable, independent lives.

It was a year soundtracked by squelching shoes and rain-drenched route maps, with so many people learning that their clothes weren’t quite as waterproof as advertised! Despite all that, there was so much joy, so many smiles, and so many people determined to support Julian House, from walkers to volunteers.

“It’s my third year organising this event and it’s such a great example of the community coming together to make a difference. Only this year, they were doing it in conditions more suitable for white water rafting than a 22-mile country walk! It was amazing to see so much positivity and enthusiasm in the face of adversity this year. Whether they were first-time walkers doing one or two sections, or taking on the full route, the determination on show was truly awe-inspiring. Can’t wait for next year!” Gavin Osbourn, Senior Community and Events Organiser

The circular route took participants along the beautiful outskirts of Bath, on a diverse terrain of footpaths, canal paths, fields through to hills including Little Solsbury Hill, Lansdown, and Millennium Viewpoint, even if the walkers were unable to see the view from the top!

Events such as the Circuit of the Bath is made possible by the 70 volunteers who were marshaling the 5 checkpoints across the 22-mile route signing participants in and offering much needed encouragement. Thank you for making a rain-soaked Sunday such a pleasure for our participants, and for devoting such a lot of your weekend to support Julian House!

We couldn’t host our charity events without the help of local businesses and communities who give their time and donations to ensure that this vital fundraiser ran smoothly. From our brilliant sponsors to kind donations, we wanted to express our gratitude to everyone who has taken part: How local businesses are lending a hand to support the Circuit of Bath | Julian House
