Thank you to Dentaid for coming to provide free dental care to the families staying at our domestic abuse refuge.

Dentaid provides outreach dental services and oral health advice for people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse.

When people escape from domestic abuse to stay at our refuges, they have had to leave everything behind.

In some cases, people have suffered damage to their teeth as a result of being abused or they find the thought of someone touching their face to be extremely traumatic.

This means that patients often have not had the opportunity to prioritise their oral health and find themselves in dental pain but unable to access traditional healthcare services due to having to rejoin new dental waiting lists.

By working with support workers and partner charities they give survivors of abuse the best possible chance of accessing dental care thanks to our gentle patient-led approach to our clinics.

They also seek to offer a regular service to help to build our patients’ trust and increase their understanding of oral health.

Thank you to Dentaid for their unique approach to making dentistry as accessible as possible for these highly vulnerable patients.
