Too often, we don’t associate domestic abuse with homelessness. But as Ruth, one of our Regional Managers, explains, it’s one of the most heartbreaking and overlooked causes. It’s people escaping domestic abuse with nowhere safe to go, wondering how they’ll keep their children safe, warm and fed while recovering from trauma.
As Regional Manager at Julian House Ruth overseas our domestic abuse services across Banes, Wiltshire and Somerset which provides safe and secure refuges to individuals escaping domestic abuse.
"The men, women and children we work with are incredibly resilient and hopefully a lot of that we can bring out in them and seeing their confidence grow and flourish is definitely the thing that makes everyday amazing." Ruth Sweeney, Regional Manager at Julian House.
When people move into the refuges, our teams are on hand to support the move into their new home, help people apply for grants and be on hand to ensure that everything is in place and that they are safe.
Once we have helped them to find appropriate accommodation a support worker will visit them on a weekly basis to check in with them and make sure that everything is ok.
Everybody has a right to a safe home.
