Brain of Bath Success

Once again Bath Businesses have turned out to support Julian House’s annual corporate fundraising event the Brain of Bath.

18 enthusiastic teams of ten bath-based businesses put their mental mettle to the test at Bath’s historic Assembly Rooms to see who would be crowned with the prestigious title.

Challenges included identifying the silhouettes of countries, rounds on sport, 20th Century History and music lyrics as well as an ‘Only Connect’ inspired word wall round where teams had to identify words and the category that linked them.

After 120 questions the winners were architectural and urban design company Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios who take the trophy for the second year running! They were closely followed by Fidelius in second place and the Quizzards of Odd in third, both within ten points of the winning team.

Event organizer Matthew Redmore said “It was fantastic to see so many Bath organisations coming together after a long 18 months apart due to Covid. The Brain of Bath is always a popular fixture in the Julian House calendar. It was fantastic evening and while the event is competitive all the teams were great sports and got stuck in.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers, Wiltshire Digital Drive for scoring the event and our fantastic sponsor Deloitte, whose support means that all the proceeds raised will help the people who need our support the most”

The inaugural Brain of Bath quiz night took place in 1999 and was the brainchild of a small group of Bath businessmen. They were concerned about the problem of homelessness. It had three main objectives: to raise funds for Bath’s main local homeless charity (Julian House), raise awareness of the difficult social issues surrounding homelessness and provide support for a dedicated research project at the University of Bath. Originally the event took place in the main sports hall at the University of Bath and teams competed for the title of Brain of Bath and the impressive Waterford Crystal trophy. Since then the venue has changed to the elegant surroundings of the Assembly Rooms.

Long time supporters of Julian House, Deloitte, were the main sponsors. The final amount raised from the event is likely to be around £10,000.
