Walking the Cotswold Way: Rebecca’s 102 mile challenge in aid of Julian House

Did you know that May is National Walking Month? There’s no better time to lace up your trainers and get walking!

It’s undeniable that walking is good for your physical health, even a brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits.

According to Public Health England, walking and cycling also have positive effects on mental health and general wellbeing. The mental health and neurological benefits include reduced risk of dementia, improved sleep quality, and a greater sense of wellbeing.

Meet Rebecca Clifford and her loyal companion, Brian. Together, they’re embarking on an extraordinary journey: walking the Cotswold Way, covering an impressive 102 miles this August, all in aid of Julian House.

She shares: I got Brian just over a year ago and long walks with him have become my favourite way to exercise and get some headspace, so I thought why not combine the two! “

But Rebecca’s motivations run even deeper.

“I am training every weekend with Brian, trying to get as many long walks in as possible, but I’m very aware that 102 miles is going to be very challenging! I’ve wanted to do some fundraising for a long time, as a kind of personal, solo mission.

Homelessness is something very close to my heart. In the past a friend of mine became homeless and subsequently took his own life. With the cost-of-living crisis at the moment I fear many people will fall into crisis. So I am eager to support a charity helping people who may be in a similar situation.

As soon as I read about all the amazing work Julian House does for all sorts of different people, I knew I wanted to fundraise for them!”
