Newton Abbot resident to take on London Marathon challenge for local charity

Vanessa Zalman will be running the iconic 26-mile race in October and hopes to raise £1500 for Julian House, a charity that supports vulnerable individuals experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness in Devon and the South West.

Whilst being a member of the women only Fit2Run running club in Newton Abbot, this is the first time Vanessa will take on this important challenge and she feels that it is important to raise funds and awareness for what she describes as the ‘grey areas’ that exist in our society.

“I choose to raise funds for Julian House as it does amazing work supporting vulnerable people who are either sleeping on the streets, or, are at risk of being homeless in our region. I became aware of their vital work when it was highlighted during drama performances when my daughter was studying at Newton Abbot college. They really emphasised the experiences that the most vulnerable have, including our homeless community and those needing help with move on accommodation. I hope I can also motivate younger generations to engage with our community in these vital projects”

Daffne Zamudio, Community Fundraiser for Julian House says “We are really proud to have been chosen by Vanessa in representing Julian House for the London Marathon in October 2021. It’s great to see that the work we did with Newton Abbott college, themselves a great ambassador for Julian House, has remained in her thoughts and that she is raising vital funds to help our work. We wish her well with her training and fundraising”
