A big thank you to our amazing supporters who took part in the Big Bath Sleep-Out: At Home on Friday 5th March. Together, we’ve raised £10,000! This is so incredible and a testament to the amazing dedication from all of you who took part. You’re amazing! In the uncertain economic times ahead, these funds will be vital in helping us provide our life-saving services. Without events like these and the help of our supporters, we really could not provide the essential life-saving support that so many vulnerable men and women depend upon. Thank you for helping us change and save lives.
Choose to sleep out with your family for one night and help men and women forced to sleep outside every night.
Will you join us and hundreds of others across Basingstoke and Deane and sleep out in 2022? Raise vital funds and awareness for men and women and help to rebuild their lives devastated by homelessness.
It’s a grim realisation, that without support like ours, the life expectancy of a long-term homeless person is just 45 years!
By sleeping out, you can help change that.
The Big Basingstoke Sleep-Out, sponsored by Newbury Building Society, is brought to you by the Big Sleep-Out series and is in partnership with local homeless charity, The Camrose Centre.
The Camrose Centre is Basingstoke’s own open access day centre for homeless and vulnerably housed people, offering shelter, hot and takeaway food, shower, clothing and a listening ear all year round.
On top of everyday challenges, the on-going impact of Covid-19 has had a devastating effect on the men, women and children we support. We’ve been working around the clock to help the people in our care. In 2020, most of our fundraising events were cancelled or postponed, but this year we want you to help raise vital funds than enable us to deliver lifesaving services.
“Homelessness is not solely a city-centric issue as it is just as prevalent in our local communities. It’s a huge issue which must be tackled and as a business at the centre of helping people buy their homes, we are delighted to support an event designed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by some of our most vulnerable. With this in mind, we warmly welcome all who wish to join us for the big night this coming March.”
Emma Simms, Marketing and Communications Manager at Newbury Building Society.
It is the collective spirit and determination of our fundraisers which has been the reason for the Sleep-Out’s appeal and success. While we can’t be together in person as planned, we can virtually. That’s why we will be hosting a series of optional live-streamed events on the night so we can be together and share our own ‘sleep-out’ experience with each other.
What will l need on the night?
- Sleeping bag or duvets and blankets
- Cardboard and/or plastic sheeting to be placed between you and the ground
- Plenty of warm clothes, hats, gloves, and waterproofs
- Snacks and drinks
- A torch. One with a red filter is best. You can buy these or make your own with some red film.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The Sleep-Out is a challenge that will give you a very small insight into what it might be like to sleep rough every night, including cold temperatures and wet weather. If, however, the weather is too severe – such as torrential rain or snow – please do move inside.
Please note, it’s not giving up or failing if you make the decision to move inside. In fact, this can provide a calm environment and time for reflection on your experience, and how lucky you are to have the choice to move indoors.
Will I receive any resources for the night and to help me fundraise?
Absolutely. We will send you regular emails between now and the event to help organise your fundraising and how to sleep out on the night. If you’d like some fundraising tips now, head to our Fundraising Tips & Ideas page.
What is the fundraising target?
Every penny and pound you raise goes towards supporting vulnerable and isolated individuals. We do not charge an entry fee for the event but ask that all participants aim to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. See Your Impact to find out the important ways your funds can make a difference and help rebuild lives.
